For then I will be a Saint

(The Glory of God is man fully alive.
St. Irenaeus of Lyons)

Presence of the Holy Spirit
Action of God to give
Holiness, comfort, power
Gives us the strength to live

Love of God is real
Perfect, constant and true
An offer of eternal love
For me and for you

We are social animals
We need one another
The need that God provides
Is like no other

Both spiritual and physical
Humankind God did make
In His image and likeness
To be good and not fake

We grow and we learn
We discover more of our self
Our gifts, talents, values
Deep within us, our wealth

A life time it takes
To reach true perfection
For then I will be a Saint
And see God in my reflection

This may not be now
For I know it is a gift
I need to be open, humble
Pray for the lift

The Son became flesh
So we can be like the divine
I need to accept God
As a true friend of mine

I search high and low
And in the hearts of the human race
Hide not from me Lord
A glimpse of your face

Creator Father in heaven
Your spiritual connection does pull
Guiding life in your direction
So I can live life, to the full

God of love and compassion
God of power and might
Be with us always, so one day
I will walk into the light

Writer's Block

Sorry people, I haven't blogged for some time. This must be a great disappointment for those who check everyday to see if I have something new for you. I do actually have another poem. I will give it a separate post to keep the purity of the theological prose free from the waffle that I am currently writing.

This poetic streak is one that I didn't realise I had until recently. These gifts must be shared, and you are the lucky ones. Do you know there are some people who haven't read this blog. I am assuming that they don't have internet access or don't know how to read. I may have to produce an audio book or create a cartoon.

For those of you who are on the right path, I will for your benefit endeavor to post wisdom on a more regular basis.

Stay holy, and stop doing that thing, you know, the thing you shouldn't be doing.

Poem about Cutting the Grass

I don't normally write poems but I feel inspired having just contemplated nature.

Today I looked out of my window and noticed the grass
The grass is very long and needs to be cut
I don't like having to cut the grass
yet it grows despite my displeasure
Whether it grows in ignorance or defiance it continues to grow
Some say ignorance
Some say defiance
Others say both
Ignorant defiance?
Or defiant ignorance?
I must seek clarification
I thought about cutting the grass
I tried ignoring it
but it is there at the corner of my eye
I thought about scheduling it for a free day
I don't have any free days
In the end I did the only thing a sensible person could do
I closed the curtains

Photos in the wallet

I thought I would share a little of the thoughts and insight into the life of Mr Peter McGeady. Today I realised that I have a photo of myself in my wallet. I am not talking ID card, this a proper passport type photo. Now this made me think. Some people keep photos of their loved ones, children or pets with them. I have a photo of myself. I wondered what this told me about myself. Currently I am wondering why I am sharing this with the world. Maybe it is due to the exhibition side of me. For those who didn't realise there was an exhibitionist side to me have missed some very exciting moments. The photo. It is simply a portrait of me to passport regulations and not at my best. It doesn't really express my charm and sparkle. I can't remember why I would put the photo in my wallet and as convention tells me that wallet photos should be of loved ones, having a photo of myself would seem a bit vain or just bizarre. Should I remove the photo? I have just taken a moment to pause and reflect. The photo is staying.

Drawing the line.

Sometimes I draw the line, not to stop myself from crossing it, but to make sure that I do.

A very sad day for Europe and the UK

A few days ago we remembered the 65th anniversary of D-Day, we remembered those people that lost their lives fighting against Fascism. Today we are now sending over people who support it. Two European parliament seats have gone to the BMP. This is a very sad indication of our society and a very worrying trend. I would say more but it is late and I must sleep. Please pray for our nation.

God bless

Pentecost and Confirmation

I like Pentecost. It is one of my favourite feasts. The power of the Spirit working in people in a dramatic and dynamic way. People empowered to share their love of God with everyone they meet. It is usually around the time of Pentecost that the Sacrament of Confirmation is received by our young people. This year I had the privilege of being involved with the confirmation preparation in one the local parishes. It is a very special moment seeing the young people being confirmed, going up to the front of the cathedral and being struck across the face by the bishop. Something that made the day even more special is when one the young people gave me a thank you card and a bottle of red wine. Who says young people shouldn't touch alcohol? They should, as long as it is being passed on to their Catechist. People giving me bottles of Red wine is an exceedingly good idea and one that I will actively encourage. If you do get the opportunity to meet me then do please hand me a bottle of red.

P.S.
The bishop doesn't actually hit the young person, it's just a little rumour I am spreading and something I like to tell the young person when I am explaining the ceremony. Also, while Red is nice, beer is also good, real ale or lager, not fussy.

P.S.S

What I meant to say was, the church teaches that by the sacrament of Confirmation (the faithful) are more perfectly bound to the church and endowed with the special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence, as true witnesses of Christ, they are more strictly obliged both to spread and to defend the faith by word and deed. (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church para 11). You see Confirmation is a lot like the Pentecost experience of the Apostles.

God Bless.

Pope Benedict and the Internet

Politics and Religion

Local elections and MEP elections are about to take place in this sunny part of England so my recycling bin is full of unread glossy pamphlets.

I am told that at a civilised dinner one should never speak about religion or politics. Luckily I am not eating dinner and neither am I particularly civilised, as I want to write about both religion and politics. Some people seem to think the two should be separate, but I can not ignore Catholic teaching when voting and can not ignore the fact that I need to vote. To ignore faith in matter of politics seems very bizarre as political decisions have huge moral implications and can involve laws that affect religious freedom. It is because of my faith, that it is important to me, that the person I vote for is not going to attack my freedom to practise my Catholic beliefs.

Something that I am not entirely clear on is the way MEP's are elected. It seems to me that I do not vote for a person but a party and the party, depending on how many votes it has, decides who will be the MEP's. I am not sure I like that idea.

Our politicians are in a bit of a mess at moment, but then we are a consumer society and their consumption simply reflects this. It is hard to be inspired to know where to place one's vote.

I must admit that I briefly considered the Liberal Democrats. I have met some sensible people who are taking them seriously. My consideration ended abruptly when I read their policies. How can people take them seriously? My real concern showed itself in their treatment of faith schools. They claim to support more faith schools but then declare that they will remove everything that makes the school a place of faith. The Catholic Church makes a huge contribute to the education of this country and are considered to have some very good schools. If the Liberal Democrats succeed in damaging Catholic schools then education in this country will suffer.
They will not be getting my vote.

I will have to keep searching. Not voting is not an option.

God Bless

Probably the best Catholic Blog in the world!

This Blog is currently work in progress while I discover what all the buttons do. In true Blogging style I intend to share with the world my unsubstantiated claims, biased theology, jokes that only I find funny and anecdotal stories about things that happen to me during the day.

I love the Catholic Church and dislike those who damage its good name. It is not my intention to cause offence but to share my wisdom with you. I will apologise in advance, not for my words, but for any spelling errors. God has given me many gifts but the ability to spell is not one of them. Armed with my Collins English Dictionary and the computer's spell check I will boldly go where many Bloggers have gone before me.

This could be the beginning of something wonderful, or maybe not. Oh the anticipation, stay away from the edge of your seat, I don't want you to fall and hurt yourself.

Subscribe, I think it's possible.

God Bless
