Church on the Ball

2010 WORLD CUP: CHURCH ON THE BALL!

The Catholic church in South Africa is taking the world cup very seriously.
"The Church in South Africa wants to contribute to the success of the World Cup and to show its hospitality to all visitors on this particular occasion. The World needs to bring together the peoples, nations, languages, religions, cultures and ethnicities. The Church wants to participate in its own way."

Below is the prayer that they are using.

Soccer World Cup prayer

Almighty God,
creator of all, as people from
every nation gather with excitement
and enthusiasm for the 2010 World Soccer
Cup may South Africans be good hosts, our
visitors welcomed guests and the players from
every team be blessed with good sportsmanship
and health. May your Spirit of fairness, justice and
peace prevail amongst players and all involved. May
each contribute in his own positive ways to prevent,
control and fight crime and corruption, hooliganism of
any kind and exploitation and abuse, especially of
those most vulnerable. May those far away from
home and those in their families find much joy
in this occasion to celebrate the beautiful
game of soccer and the beautiful
game of life according to Your
plan for the common good
of all. Amen

For then I will be a Saint

(The Glory of God is man fully alive.
St. Irenaeus of Lyons)

Presence of the Holy Spirit
Action of God to give
Holiness, comfort, power
Gives us the strength to live

Love of God is real
Perfect, constant and true
An offer of eternal love
For me and for you

We are social animals
We need one another
The need that God provides
Is like no other

Both spiritual and physical
Humankind God did make
In His image and likeness
To be good and not fake

We grow and we learn
We discover more of our self
Our gifts, talents, values
Deep within us, our wealth

A life time it takes
To reach true perfection
For then I will be a Saint
And see God in my reflection

This may not be now
For I know it is a gift
I need to be open, humble
Pray for the lift

The Son became flesh
So we can be like the divine
I need to accept God
As a true friend of mine

I search high and low
And in the hearts of the human race
Hide not from me Lord
A glimpse of your face

Creator Father in heaven
Your spiritual connection does pull
Guiding life in your direction
So I can live life, to the full

God of love and compassion
God of power and might
Be with us always, so one day
I will walk into the light
